Friday Finds #2

For some reason, this has felt like the longest week. Maybe because I have finally started Christmas shopping; always an exhausting activity that leaves me questioning the whole holiday season. But my kids are SO excited and have opened their very ‘festive’ Kinder advent calenders. Sadly there’s no picture behind the door, only a chocolate. We’re all wondering why no picture?

The good news is it’s Friday and here are some links and trailers, a bit of a film theme, all have something to do with light and photography.

  • Wim Wenders exhibits a selection of his Polaroids taken from the 1960s to the 1980s, at The Photographer’s Gallery, London. Exhibition on until February 2018.

  • Anyone else watching Godless? I’ve never been much of a fan of the Western movie genre having watched way too many John Wayne films on the telly when I was a child in the 1970s. There wasn’t much else on, on a Sunday afternoon. Anyway, I am loving this series. Long episodes, lovely cinematography, fantastic landscape, wide, bleak and empty. Here’s a trailer:

Berkofsky is the cinematographer for the series Insecure which I believe is on HBO – I haven’t watched it but from what I understand it’s good.

  • There’s an interesting short article here where Berkofsky talks about her approach to lighting people of colour and the history of film stock made to enhance caucasian skin tones.
