Scrapbook of Inspiration

PINTEREST. DO YOU love it or hate it? I happen to love it. I admit I do often get lost in the many rabbit holes that it’s able to lure me down but despite this, I find it a helpful place to organise articles or images. I enjoy making a scrapbook of inspiration from my wanderings about the internet. Helpfully too, I find it a relatively free place from the tyranny of followers and likes that plague other social media platforms. Of course, you can follow and like to your heart’s content but I find it at its most useful for ordering my thoughts and having an overview of images I think are interesting or funny or beautiful.

Lately, I’ve been re-connecting with my collection of vintage cameras, using film and generally slowing down my own ever-increasing digital photo factory. When I look at my Pinboards I see pins about alternative photo processes, vintage colour photography and using analogue cameras. Instinctively I have been pinning these images and the effect has been filtering down into my own photographic making. There are others too. A board about Women & Sport, Thoughts About Creativity and examples of Visual Interpretations of the Moon.

I do, of course, have a few ‘secret’ boards. Ones with clothes I like, hairstyles that could be good (if only I could find a good hairdresser) and room styling ideas. The usual fare of a middle-aged, middle-class woman. But I choose to hide these away not because I’m embarrassed but because they’re not really the heart of my interests and fascinations.

So with all this in mind, I’m giving my Pinterest account a little bit more care and attention. A reshuffle here and there. A more regular pace of pinning. My aim is to provide a resource, a brain dump of visual thoughts, ideas and theories that form the backbone of everything I write here.

I used to love PInterest it was my happy place until the ads took over and I found them so jarring against the carefully selected pins of people I followed that it didn’t look as lovely anymore. I must get back into it as totally agree how great it is to be free of the tyranny of followers and likes. Many hours I have wasted dreaming about gardens and art and hair dos. I also love moon phase pictures but haven’t ventured to a board for them yet, there’s still time 🙂

Hey Kate! Thank you for your thoughts. I agree the ads are like a plague colonising all of social media at the moment. Do start a moon phase board. The love might come back 🙂
