I WOKE UP the other morning with thoughts in my head. Thoughts about mothering, thoughts about writing, thoughts about photography.
It's the year 1984 and the morning of Halloween in the small fictitious town of Hawkins, USA. Four friends are each having their photograph taken before leaving for school. This scene in episode 2 of the series Stranger Things 2 is the inspiration for this post about family photographs.
MANY YEARS AGO when I was studying for a BTEC in General Art and Design (and it was very general) we had to do a module in photography. To me black and white photography seemed mystical and strange
SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE once said that “every picture tells a story”. So here I am looking at a picture and thinking of a story. The picture is an early family photograph from the 1800s – a woman seated, a man seated next to her.
PINTEREST. DO YOU love it or hate it? I happen to love it. I admit I do often get lost down the many rabbit holes that it's able to lure me down but despite this, I find it a helpful place to organise articles or images, to make a scrapbook of inspiration from my wanderings about the internet.
